As healthcare continues to move into the digital era, Telecare stands out as a segment where reliability isn’t just important; it’s critical. These are solutions that support vulnerable individuals, often in life-or-death situations.

While several industry and regulatory bodies, including GSMA, have introduced frameworks addressing IoT security, efficiency, and device management, there remains relatively limited formal guidance focused specifically on the connectivity layer for life-critical healthcare use cases. Where such advice does exist, it can vary significantly by country and often stops short of defining expected uptime, roaming resilience, or SIM management practices in telecare deployments.

At Tele2 IoT, we believe that waiting for someone else to define the rules isn’t an option.

That’s why we’ve developed our own Telecare Policy  and Memorandum,  a structured approach that combines mandatory service requirements with strong recommendations for device capabilities and solution design. It’s not just about compliance. It’s about doing the right thing  for the people who rely on these services every day.

We emphasize redundant connectivity, failover testing, and secure network behavior because we’ve seen firsthand how fragile systems can become when these elements are missing. Our policy also includes a dedicated Technical Service Manager, emergency communication plans, and resilient backhaul setups all designed to minimize risk and maximize uptime.

In addition, we’ve formalized our expectations through the Tele2 IoT Network Communication Policywhere we strongly advise implementing redundant communication setups such as dual SIM, mobile + Wi-Fi, or mobile + Ethernet to ensure continuous operation. Choosing a single connectivity path means accepting the risk of service interruptions that may affect availability and end user

This isn’t just a technical checklist. It’s a reflection of our values.

We know we can’t solve the entire industry’s challenges alone. But by setting a high standard and working closely with our customers, we can help shape a safer, more reliable future for Telecare services across Europe.
