New 5G security regulations in Sweden are being introduced to safeguard the resilience and integrity of the country’s communications infrastructure. These rules are designed to ensure that IoT solutions can continue to operate reliably in a rapidly evolving threat landscape, while also securing critical national services. In practice, this means stricter requirements on how operators manage SIM technology, roaming, and access to multiple networks.
From 1 November 2025, Tele2 IoT will no longer offer our Swedish IMSI range for new deployments in Sweden. Instead, the national roaming-enabled Estonian IMSI range will be the only option for new activations. This step ensures that all IoT customers have access to more than one network, strengthening resilience and aligning with Sweden’s 5G security regulations.
You can still use communication plans that limit SIMs to Tele2 only, but we strongly recommend enabling roaming to maximize network resilience.
For Estonian IMSIs, SIM cards must be eUICC-capable going forward. We understand this may affect your SIM cost if you have previously been ordering commercial-grade cards.
Today, more than 80% of Tele2 IoT customers in Sweden are already deploying using eUICC grade SIM equipped with Estonian IMSIs. This change is therefore a natural progression toward securing and future-proofing their setup.
Navigating regulatory change can be complex, but Tele2 IoT is here to make it simple. By adopting eUICC technology and enabling roaming, your IoT deployments will remain compliant with Swedish 5G security regulations while benefiting from improved network resilience and flexibility.
